There is big news tonight out of South Carolina that you won’t hear from the media. The Republican Party of South Carolina has elected it’s first African-American Republican National Committeeman, Glenn McCall! It’s also possible that he will be the very first African American Republican National Committeeman from the entire South! The Next Right has more details.
So what does this have to do with Mike Huckabee and the Huckabee Republican movement? McCall was endorsed for the position by Governor Mike Huckabee. McCall defeated the incumbent who was endorsed by the Christian Coalition. This speaks in a large volume about what is occurring in the Republican Party and the Evangelical movement at large. The followers in the pews are overpowering their leaders at the pulpit who are fading away into obscurity and/or showing an extreme lack of leadership.
Also while he was eventually defeated in his run for the President, Governor Huckabee has planted seeds in the ground and his followers are sowing them. They are not just sitting idly by for their next chance to try again for Huck. They are now using their newly-found political experience (Most of us have never been involved politically before) by running for offices both, large and small, across this land (not to mention positions within the Republican party itself). The seeds Huckabee has planted are now sprouting into plants.
A month ago I was very wary of the possibility that Mike Huckabee could be named John McCain’s running mate. Don’t get me wrong - I am all for that in fact I endorse Mike Huckabee for Vice President. However I feel it is important to mention that at the time I was very concerned that Mike Huckabee would not be able to continue to lead his movement to change the GOP for the better.
Today I am very confident that his followers can carry the torch by themselves if they had to. Keep in mind It was us, the grassroots supporters that were a big force behind Huckabee’s success (as Huck did not have a lot of money). We were able to close some of the money gap with our zeal and passion.
I realize that the establishment wing of the GOP is now combining forces to try to defeat us. Well go ahead, make my day! Ours is a battle worth fighting for and we are not going to be turned away so easily!
By now, I'm sure you've either seen the video or read the stories of Huck's inexplicable gaffe at the NRA convention. I won't post the video here, but this is the money quote:
“That was Barack Obama, he just tripped off a chair, he’s getting ready to speak...somebody aimed a gun at him and he dove for the floor.”
For a man who is one of the best public speakers of our time, that comment is beyond comprehension. Of course, Huck did apologize to Obama and his apology was accepted. By Barak, anyway. Not any of the conservative blogs or bloggers who went nuclear in their attacks on the Gov.
This has made Huck radio-active for the near future. When Maverick sent out the invitations for his Memorial Day gathering, Huck's absence from the list was conspicuous. According to Team Huck, he had a previous engagement, which may be true. Media outlets and blogs have had a field day ignoring that fact, funny how little research they do when it suits them, and focusing on the supposed slight by McCain.
Frankly, I doubt Maverick is considering Romney for Veep. His contempt for the silver spooner was plainly evident in the primaries. My guess is he's considering Romney for a cabinet position to utilize Mitt's financial resources. Hopefully that position won't have anything to do with health care as RomneyCare is hemorraging money in Mass to the tune of billions per year.
I can't imagine Charlie Christ as VP, he hasn't accomplished anything down here and the GOP needs to give Jindal a chance to turn Lousiana around to raise his stock for 2012.
My hope is that Huck's name is off the list as well. It will take him years to allow this ridiculous, inexplicable gaffe to fade a bit. And he needs the time to revisit his positions on global warming (fake), illegal immigration (illegal), and world affairs (more informed), before he makes a run at the White House in 2012.

During a stump speech Saturday night, Barack Obama made the following statement:
"...You know, Iran, they spend 1/100th of what we spend on the military. I mean, if Iran ever tried to pose a serious threat to us, they would — they wouldn’t stand a chance."
This is a stupifyingly naive grasp of world affairs and national security. The CIA estimates that Al Queda spent a mere $30 million annually of which up to $20 million went to the Taliban. For that paltry sum, they were able to murder nearly 4,000 US citizens and destroy an American landmark.
With Iran spending nearly $6 billion for their terror/defense budget, what do you suppose they could do? How much does a suitcase dirty bomb cost? Once you are able to enrich plutonium as presidential hopeful Obama would allow them to do, how many Iranian sponsored suicide bombers do you suppose they could sneak through our porous borders? Borders that liberals like Obama would keep wide open.
Leaving aside his Marxist policy intiatives -- $3 billion annually in new entitlement programs, his association with race baiting anarchists like Rev. Wright and Wm. Ayers of the Weather Underground, Barack Obama might be the most incompetent man ever to run for the White House.
He wants people to look past color. I agree. Do not vote for this man out of some ridiculous notion that not voting for him is racist. Not voting for a terrorist appeasing, open borders, blundering incompetant on foreign affairs is necessary to protect this nation from catastrophe.
In an article posted today at RealClearPolitics.com Robert Novak talks about John McCain's problems with evangelicals and whether Mike Huckabee is part of it.
He opens with this question:
"John McCain...has a problem...with a vital component of the conservative coalition...The biggest question is whether Mike Huckabee is part of the problem"
He seems to answer that question with this statement:
"Huckabee's announced support of McCain is unequivocal, and he is regarded in the McCain camp as a friend and ally"
But then he counters that statement with this one:
"But credible activists are spreading the word that Huckabee secretly allies himself with the bitter-end opposition. That hardly seems possible considering his public backing, but critics of Huckabee's 10 years as governor of Arkansas say he is all too capable of playing a double game."
Novak debunks that statement with this one:
"McCain and Huckabee were friendly rivals in this year's Republican competition, sharing contempt for Mitt Romney." And this bit: "Huckabee quickly endorsed McCain once he clinched the nomination. They bonded publicly in Little Rock, Ark., April 24 during McCain's recent tour."
Then comes that wondrous tool of the media -- the unnamed source to damn with impunity:
"One experienced, credible activist in Christian politics who would not let his name be used told me Huckabee in personal conversation with him embraced the concept that an Obama presidency might be what the American people deserve."
Amazing how people will slander another, but refuse to allow their own name to be used. Why should we give an ounce of credence to a cowardly attack like that? Novak goes on with his back and forth with Huck's denial of that slanderous remark:
"In conversations with me, Huckabee... denied advocating that an Obama presidency should be inflicted on the country. Huckabee was enthusiastic in his support for McCain, noting how well they had bonded during their primary competition."
Novak continues with this remark from the McCain camp that should put this nonsense to rest:
"At McCain headquarters, there is no doubt expressed about Huckabee's loyalty. 'I feel we haven't used him (Huckabee) enough,' McCain campaign manger Rick Davis told me."
That should be the end of it, but Novak closes with this enigmatic statement that I've read repeatedly and can't seem to figure out what he's saying:
"Mike Huckabee has emerged from obscurity to become a major factor in American politics leading evangelical Christians. The McCain campaign counts on him to energize supporters who would rather wait for Huckabee 2012, not to encourage those dreams."
Is he saying that despite everything he put in his article, that the McCain camp is worried that Huck will sabotage them to further his own political ambitions? Pretty ambiguous way to say that in my opinion. Maybe I'm not smart enough to get his subtlety.
Naturally this got first mention this morning over at HotAir as Capt. Ed threw it to the dogs to see what they'd do with it. In what I would call the very definition of hypocrisy, all the same posters who said that they would either not vote or vote democratic rather than vote for Huck when he was ascendent in the primaries, are now saying how foolish it would be to do that very thing.
