Rockin' Huckabee

 Vertical Monday

I had to work today, so I missed a great deal of the blogging on Huck's website. Here are a few bits from him on various topics. There is also a post from Newt Gingrich and some videos as well.

A Different Kind of Message
by Mike Huckabee

Our political parties in America have become too predictable. One of the reasons that our political system has become so divided is because the people who support those parties are predictable as well.

One of the ways my candidacy is unique is that I am not a Republican from Wall Street , nor am I tied to the lobbyists on K Street in Washington . At my heart, I'm a main street Republican. As the prophet Isaiah said in the Old Testament, “Look to the rock from which you were hewn and the quarry from which you were dug.” I know where I have come from. I was raised in a small town in the middle of America in a working-class family that didn't have much of an education. We didn't have much money, and nobody ever cared what yard sign we put out in front of our house.

If we're going to have a country that works for all its citzens, we will be required to first put people into leadership positions who understand what's great about America is not our government. It is the people who everyday go to work every day and don't ask for a whole lot. They really just want to be left alone and earn a decent paycheck so they can provide for their families and improve their own standard of living. When they are promised a pension, they want, and deserve, to have that promise kept.

What they do not deserve is to work 30 years for a company and one day find out there’s been a leveraged buyout. In situations like these, CEOs have trotted off with millions of dollars in cash and the people who've worked all of those years for these companies lose not just a paycheck, but their pensions as well. Our political parties should also reflect the employee's vision for America, not just the CEO's.

 Vertical Monday -- Sept 24th

This looks like an exciting event for the Gov. and a chance for voters to get plenty of information and interaction with Huck. Don't miss it!

From Gov. Mike Huckabee:

Everywhere I go on the campaign trail, I meet voters with a real thirst for a healthy discussion of the issues. Ultimately, people don't care whether an issue comes from the left or the right. What they want to talk about are ideas that lift America up and make us better. It's what I call "Vertical Politics."

On Monday, our campaign has set aside 24 hours, for what we are calling a "Vertical Day". The focus of Vertical Day will be a discussion of the most important issues facing America. The plan is to promote my positions on these issues through video and personal blogs, and to have an online conversation with voters about our ideas, the solutions we see possible, our hopes for America and the challenges we face.

I'd like you to be a part of Vertical Day. I encourage you to tell your friends, family members and co-workers about it and ask them to participate. Vertical Day will start on Monday, September 24 and end on Tuesday, Sept. 25. I'm excited about this opportunity. With your help, and the power of the Internet, we will be able to involve thousands of voters all across America and truly build excitement around this discussion of issues.

To encourage you to make the time to be a part of Vertical Day, my campaign team has put together an incentive package that I hope will be fun and also create buzz and excitement. First, we've created a special Vertical Day page on our website, where you can view the 24 hours of online content we have pulled together.

We also have created a very simple online tool that will give you the ability to promote Vertical Day to your friends, family members and co-workers. We've developed a package of rewards based upon the number of people you are able to get to visit the website. As a way to cap off Vertical Day, we'll enter the names of each of our top promoters into a raffle. On Tuesday, September 25 at 3 p.m., we will draw two names who will receive special invitations to be my personal guests to the YouTube Debate on November 28 in St. Petersburg, FL.

I will have more details for you soon. In the meantime, please mark Monday, Sept. 24 down on your calendars.

 More momentum

Demand that Mike Huckabee come speak in your city.

This first bit is from Jim Geraghty of National Review Online as he gives his thoughts from the NRA conference recently held:

"Basing my grades entirely on crowd reactions at today's NRA "Celebration of American Values," I'd grade McCain B+, Thompson A, Rudy B+, Huckabee A+. I will give Romney and Richardson C+s for their video presentations - they're well done for what they are, but no video can command an audience's attention the way a candidate in the flesh can."

Here is a release concerning the Gov's great showing at the Palmetto Family Council Straw Poll in South Carolina:

LITTLE ROCK, AR –
South Carolina conservatives continue to rally around Mike Huckabee. Last night, Mike Huckabee won the Palmetto Family Council Straw Poll, garnering 206 of the 539 votes cast. Huckabee was picked as the favorite at the largest gathering of South Carolina conservatives before the January 19 Republican Primary. Every Republican Presidential candidate, except Rudy Giuliani, stressed the priority of this event with their presence in person, by video, or via speakerphone.

Governor Huckabee responded to his victory by stating, "I'm pleased, and proud, and honored to have the support of so many South Carolinians who believe, as I do, in the core values which define American culture and life. Historically, South Carolina has chosen every Republican nominee since Ronald Reagan and the inception of the South Carolina Republican Primary. South Carolina is quickly becoming Huckabee Country as South Carolina conservatives continue to coalesce around one candidate and together we will prevail."

Huckabee's victory comes just days after winning Monday's Value Voters Debate Straw Poll with 63% of the vote and continues a trend, which includes winning Monday's Value Voters Debate Straw Poll; a strong Second Place finish at the Republican Party of Iowa Straw Poll last month in Ames; and finishing first and second respectively in April straw polls in Spartanburg and Greenville counties, which combine to make up nearly 20% of the Republican primary vote.

Out of 539 votes cast:

Mike Huckabee - 206
Ron Paul - 179
Fred Thompson - 43
Sam Brownback - 29
Duncan Hunter - 25
Mitt Romney - 14
John McCain - 10
Rudy Giuliani - 5

This is good stuff for the Gov. and shows that he is getting his message out and it is well received. If you are not hearing about Huck's good showings, feel free to complain to your local papers and media outlets. They are the ones trying to keep this a Rudy/Hillary contest. Let's bust in on them.

 Values Voter Debate

MIKE HUCKABEE TRIUMPHS AT VALUES VOTER DEBATE
Former Arkansas Governor Wins with 63% of Vote

Little Rock, AR – Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee was the clear winner of last night’s Values Voter Presidential Debate, winning with a sweeping 63% of the vote.

“We won huge,” said Huckabee after the votes were in. “I’m pleased, and proud, and honored to have this historic endorsement from America’s leading social conservatives who believe, as I do, in the core values which define American culture and life. This overwhelming vote affirms that conservatives are coalescing around one candidate and that candidate is me. Together, we will prevail.”

Huckabee came in a strong first place with 219 votes, garnering more votes than all of the other candidates’ votes combined. Ron Paul was a distant second-place, with 44 votes; Sam Brownback and Fred Thompson came in fourth and fifth, with 18 and 15 respectively.

The poll included 340 delegates who were hand-selected by 40 of America’s social activists and opinion-makers.

The debate, held at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, was organized by Phyllis Schlafly, Paul Weyrich, Don Wildmon, Matt Staver, Rick Scarborough, and Janet Folger.

 Governor Huckabee responds to MoveOn.org

Little Rock, AR – Former AR Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee issued the following statement today regarding the recent advertisement by moveon.org about Gen. Petraeus in the New York Times:

“The disgraceful act of the leftist organization, moveon.org, has marked a new low watermark in American discourse. To accuse a patriotic, honorable, and highly decorated soldier like General David Petraeus of treason by intimating that he had betrayed his duty, his honor, and his country is appalling.

“The full page ad in the New York Times run by this organization is an attack on our entire military – and George Soros should spend an equal amount of his vast wealth for another full page ad apologizing to General Petraeus and to every American who has served or who is serving in the military.

“The very people who Soros savaged with his vile, despicable, and cowardly attack are the ones who have earned Mr. Soros and people of his ilk the right to display their pathetic hatred of this nation's military in a public forum.

“While an apology to General Petraeus would be in order, one can’t expect it from the caliber of people who are devoid of dignity.

“I call on every candidate for President, whether Democrat or Republican, to join in a condemnation of this outrageous insult to our military. The fact that such an abuse of free speech is legal doesn’t make it right or responsible. Surely everyone who wishes to be Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces can agree that the attack on the character of a General currently directing our troops in battle deserves condemnation. I hope that Democratic and Republican candidates alike will take a stand and denounce this dishonorable act."
